Louisville football recruiting: Traveon Samuel and Khane Pass commit

Louisville is having a very successful Friday with the commitment of two excellent athletes in Khane Pass and Traveon Samuel.

Bobby Petrino is having one of his better recruiting days since he returned as Louisville's head coach. This morning, three-star safety Khane Pass committed to the Cardinals while here on a visit. Shortly thereafter, all-purpose back Traveon Samuel committed to Louisville as well. Both boast pretty impressive offer sheets and together provide a significant boost to the 2015 class that has been relatively slow to get off the ground.

Pass, a receiver and safety from Georgia, is a consensus three-star recruit out of Georgia. He lists offers from ACC foes NC State and North Carolina as well as Texas A&M, Mississippi State, Purdue, and Nebraska. Pass likely projects as a safety, a position that Louisville continues to bolster with the heavy turnover of this season and next. It is also worth mentioning that Pass's brother, Jawon, is the #1 dual-threat quarterback in the class of 2016. So, this commitment could pay dividends down the road as well.

Samuel is a running back, wide receiver, and kick/punt returner from the state of Alabama. It's not hard to imagine Petrino scheming to get him matched up with safeties and linebackers as a slot receiver. Samuel will surely contribute in the return game as well. Looking back, Petrino has had plenty of success utilizing smaller players like Joe Adams or Trent Guy in a multitude of ways and Samuel looks to be one of those. He lists offers from many of college football's heavyweights including Clemson, Florida State, Auburn and others.

Samuel and Pass are the second and third players to commit to Louisville this week. DE/OLB Tim Bonner committed on Monday.
