It's no secret that having a huge summer is imperative for Peyton Siva to continue his career with the Detroit Pistons. The Cardinal legend is heading into his non-guaranteed second year, and is hoping to land one of the Pistons' coveted open roster spots.
"I just want to play," Siva said last week. "I would love to stay in Detroit. They drafted me and I'd love to prove myself. But I feel like whatever happens happens.
"I feel like God has a plan for me, no matter what, if I don't make the team or whatever. But I would love to be a part of it. I think they're doing something special here with Coach Van Gundy and the players they're bringing in. So I'll just try to work hard and play my game."
Siva couldn't have gotten his summer off to a better start than he did over the weekend, scoring 28 points and dishing out 13 assists in Detroit's first two games in the Orlando Summer League.
"I just think he's a good basketball player," said Bob Beyer, the Pistons assistant serving as head coach during the summer. "He's a point guard and he is thinking, 'Set my teammates up first.' He wants to run the team but he has the ability, playing in high pick-and-rolls, where he can make good decisions and get to the rim. And really, it helps him out and it helps our team out."
Regardless of how things play out with Detroit, Siva's on the road to making it next-to-impossible for every team in the league to pass on giving him a chance.
