Schimmel, McCoughtry Both Poised To Be WNBA All-Star Game Starters

Paul Halfacre-USA TODAY Sports

No guard in the WNBA has received more All-Star votes than Shoni Schimmel, who is poised to become an All-Star game starter less than four months after playing her last game as a Louisville Cardinal.

According to The Courier-Journal, at last count Schimmel ranked third in All-Star voting in the entire league, trailing only stars Elena Delle Donne and Maya Moore. The two backcourt and three frontcourt players who receive the most votes in each league will start the game, which will take place on July 19 in Phoenix. Voting ends July 2 at midnight.

If voting ended today, former Card Angel Mccoughtry -- the only U of L women's player to score more points than Schimmel during her college career -- would also be a starter. McCoughtry and Schimmel are teammates on the Atlanta Dream, which currently sits alone atop the Eastern Conference standings.
