Kevin Ware has been cleared by the NCAA to play this season at Georgia State, Panthers coach Ron Hunter told ESPN on Thursday.
"I think it's definitely the right thing to do," Hunter told ESPN.com. "Emotionally for the kid. Physically, he's fine. But this will be a huge weight lifted off his shoulders."
Ware, who became a national darling after breaking his leg during Louisville's Elite 8 win over Duke in the 2013 NCAA Tournament, appeared in just nine games for U of L last season. He averaged 1.7 points per game and last appeared during the Cardinals' win over Missouri State on Dec. 17.
At Georgia State, Ware will be joining an already talented roster that includes former Kentucky point guard Ryan Harrow. Harrow averaged 18.3 ppg last season as the Panthers went 17-1 and won the Sun Belt's regular season title, but fell to Louisiana-Lafayette by a point in overtime of the conference tournament championship game.
Best of luck to the only U of L basketball player to create a Card Chronicle user name, and the first to wear the CCBM.
