Cards Drop CWS Opener To Vanderbilt

Steven Branscombe-USA TODAY Sports

For the third time in as many appearances, the Louisville baseball team has dropped its College World Series opener.

The Cards attempted to rally from a 4-run deficit, but ultimately fell 5-3 to rival Vanderbilt. U of L will now look to snap a 4-game losing streak in Omaha by beating Texas in an elimination game on Monday at 3 p.m. The Commodores will face UC Irvine in the winner's bracket later that day at 8 p.m.

Catcher Kyle Gibson U of L at the plate by going 2-for-5 with one RBI, while junior shortstop Sutton Whiting added an RBI triple and scored once.

More from Omaha in a bit.
