Rick Pitino appeared on WHAS radio with Terry Meiners on Thursday, and among other things, revealed that the Louisville basketball team will open its 2014-15 season with exhibition games against Bellarmine University and Barry University out of Miami. Pitino added that the team will also play a pair of preseason Red-White scrimmages.
This will be the fourth straight season in which Louisville has played an exhibition game against Bellarmine, which is coached by former Cardinal assistant Scott Davenport. If you feel like you're familiar with the name Barry University, it's probably because you heard it mentioned last spring as the D-II school were Mike Balado nearly took an assistant coaching position before being offered a gig by Pitino.
In other news, Pitino announced that David Padgett would be taking over for Andre McGee as U of L's director of basketball operations, and not serving as the assistant video coordinator as previously announced. McGee has left to join former assistant coach Kareem Richardson's staff at UMKC.
Pitino also referred to Matz Stockman as "the big Norwegian" at one point. It was fantastic.
