U of L Adds Former 4-Star Safety James Sample

Jamie Rhodes-USA TODAY Sports

The Louisville football team added a huge boost to its 2014 secondary on Tuesday when it officially announced the addition of former Washington Husky James Sample.

Sample, who was originally a member of the class of 2011, was a 4-star recruit and a U.S. Army All-American coming out of high school. He suffered a season-ending injury early on his freshman season, and appeared in just three games a season later.

"James is an outstanding football player who will help us fill a void on our football team," U of L coach Bobby Petrino said in a statement. "He has outstanding size at the safety position and will add immediate depth to this position on our football team."

Terrific football quote.

In January, 2013, Sample announced that he was leaving Washington and transferred to American River Junior College in California. He is not listed as recording any statistics for the college last season.

Sample can play immediately for the Cardinals, and has a total of two years of eligibility remaining.
