The Matadors (3-9) fell 75-68 to Texas A&M Corpus Christi at home on Dec. 20 in their last outing, marking their seventh loss in eight games.. Senior forward Stephen Maxwell scored 23 points to lead CSUN in the defeat. Senior guard/forward Stephen Hicks is the Matadors' top scorer, averaging 17.5 points and 5.7 rebounds while shooting 55.8 percent from the field.
Cal State Northridge is coached by former U of L assistant Reggie Theus, who is in his second season with the Matadors. The Cardinals produced a combined 53-15 record in the two years while Theus was a member of the UofL staff (2003-05), with the Cards reaching the Final Four in 2005. Since leaving U of L, Theus has been the head coach at New Mexico State, the Sacramento Kings, and with the Los Angeles D-Fenders (NBA Developmental League), as well as an assistant with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
