Louisville football recruiting: Darius "Dee" Smith commits to Louisville

Louisville got its second piece of good recruiting news following last night's game against Florida State. This time, Louisville beat in-state rival Kentucky and a host of other schools around the south for Alabama safety/outside linebacker Darius "Dee" Smith.

Louisville scored its second recruiting win of the day with the commitment of Alabama safety/outside linebacker Darius "Dee" Smith. Earlier today, 2016 receiver Desmond Fitzpatrick committed to the Cardinals. Smith (6'2, 200) is rated a three-star (5.7 on Rivals system which is at the high end of three-star ratings) prospect by Rivals and 247Sports. 247Sports lists him as the #18 rated player in the state of Alabama and the #37 outside linebacker prospect in the nation.

Louisville was able to beat out rival Kentucky, as well as NC State, South Florida, and Miami for Smith's commitment. He's fast enough to cover but also has the frame to gradually put some weight on and possibly play the "star position (a sort of hybrid safety/linebacker) in Todd Grantham's system. Smith is Louisville's fourth commitment from Alabama. Receiver Traveon Samuel, linebacker Amonte Caban, and linebacker/defensive end Tom Bonner from Alabama all committed to Louisville as well.
