Despite sitting on the bench for the the final nine minutes of Louisville's 88-61 rout of Memphis on Sunday, Shoni Schimmel set a school record by drilling 9-of-12 three-pointers on her way to scoring a game-high 29 points for the Cards.
The record Schimmel broke? Her own, of course. Set when she buried eight treys against South Florida on Jan. 30, 2013. The Cardinal star hit a measly seven shots from beyond the arc in Louisville's win over Cincinnati four days ago.
"That's a normal day for Shoni Schimmel," said Sara Hammond, who had 13 points and eight rebounds. "To be on this team with a person like her, her skill level and the way she shoots the ball, I'm glad to be on this team and not on the other side."
The Cardinals, who finished with 21 assists on Sunday, improved to 21-1 overall and a perfect 8-0 in the American Athletic Conference. They'll have a quick turnaround for Tuesday night's game at Rutgers, which can be seen at 9 p.m. on CBS Sports Network.
