Poona Ford, the highest-ranked committed player in Louisville's 2014 recruiting class, is a committed player no longer.
Ford, a four-star defensive tackle from Hilton Head, S.C., became U of L's 24th commitment from the 2014 class when he picked the Cards over the likes of South Carolina, Ohio State and Tennessee back on Aug. 6, 2013. Adding to the sting of his decommitment is the news that Ford's first official visit will be to Texas on Jan. 17.
Rated as the 16th-best defensive tackle in the country by both Rivals and 247 Sports, Ford was the most highly-touted member of Charlie Strong's fifth U of L recruiting class. Now he's gone...as is the dream of shouting "POONA!" inside Papa John's Cardinal Stadium for the next four years.
This staff has a pretty big job to do in a pretty short amount of time, because hauling in a 2014 class that is up to ACC standards is paramount for this program being able to compete in that league.
