Once more, Peyton Siva has defied the odds.
Thought by most to be a longshot to make an NBA roster, the former Cardinal captain inked a deal with the Detroit Pistons, Rick Pitino confirmed to ESPN on Monday.
Though details of the deal have not been made public, word is that Siva's contract includes a guarantee for this season with a team option for 2014-15.
I think most Louisville fans had confidence in Peyton's ability to make an NBA roster when given the opportunity, but it seemed like it might take a couple of years of playing overseas before that shot would come. The odds against him became even larger when he was taken in the NBA Draft at pick 56 by a guard-heavy team that had already drafted two other players. But Siva was a standout for the Pistons during the Orland NBA Summer League, so much so that he went from being somewhat of an afterthought to a guy that fans in Detroit were screaming for the brass to keep around.
It's always wonderful to see good things happening to good people, especially when they just so happen to be former Cardinals. Congrats to Peyton on making his NBA dreams a reality.
UPDATE: Peyton makes it official...
