It hasn't taken Mario Urrutia long to make a splash in the Arena Football League, in fact, the former Cardinal was named the league's Rookie of the Year at their annual awards gala Thursday evening.
Urrutia, who plays for the Utah Blaze, hauled in 142 receptions for 1,675 yards and 38 touchdowns this season, leading the team in all three categories. He recorded five receptions for 76 yards and four touchdowns in his first AFL game, and finished the season with triple-digit receiving yards in eight games.
One of the most explosive deep threats in U of L football history, Urrutia finished his Cardinal career with 130 receptions for 2,201 yards and 16 touchdowns in only three seasons. The Fern Creek was a freshman All-American in 2005 and the second-leading receiver on Louisville's 2006 Orange Bowl champion team.
You knew this was coming...
Congrats to Mario on his season and his award.
