According to C.L. Brown, Rick Pitino will announce his new assistant coach at some point on Friday. He's currently looking to fill the vacancy left by Kareem Richardson, who left to take the head coaching job at UMKC.
Brown says the frontrunner to replace Richardson is Mike Balado, who just wrapped up his first season as an assistant at Florida International under Richard Pitino. Balado came to FIU after three seasons as an assistant at High Point. You can read his full bio here.
Balado has the edge because Pitino is reportedly looking to hire someone who is familiar with his system. This being the case, someone who worked under his son would obviously have an edge.
