Cards Roll Notre Dame In Regulation, Win Share Of Big East Title

33.3% Big East Champs

USA TODAY Sports

Gorgui Dieng's double-double and Peyton Siva's five assists propelled the Cards to a 73-57 Irish beatdown on Senior Day. There were a couple defensive lapses in the second half, but the shamrock firmly lodged up Jerian Grant's backside in South Bend did not make the trip to the KFC Yum! Center on Saturday and Notre Dame never seriously threatened Louisville's grasp on this game.

A few notes:

--With the win vs. Notre Dame, Louisville (14-4) clinches a three-way tie for the Big East regular season title with Georgetown (14-4) and Marquette (14-4)

--Louisville also locked up the 2 seed in the Big East Tournament and will play the Villanova-St. John's winner at 7:00 pm EST on Thursday night

--Gorgui Dieng is the first Cardinal to average a double-double in the regular season since Clifford Rozier in 1993-94.

--In the postgame press conference, Mike Brey said Dieng "looked like a pro tonight; when he's scoring it's a new dimension for Louisville."

--Rick Pitino, while sporting a lei of red and white flowers, remarked after the game that this team was "one of the more consistent teams I've ever coached--we didn't have a bad game this year. We don't think about losing. When we play ping-pong we try to beat your ass at ping- pong." He then added, "If your goals are not attainable they aren't goals. They are dreams."

The goal for 2012-13 hasn't changed since this team was put together. It's time to win the whole damn thing.
