Peyton Siva Named Big East Scholar Athlete Of The Year

USA TODAY Sports

Major congrats to Peyton Siva, who followed up his third team All-Big East selection earlier this week by being named the conference's Scholar Athlete of the Year on Tuesday.

Here's a portion of the release.

University of Louisville men's basketball's Peyton Siva was selected as the 2013 American Eagle Outfitters BIG EAST Scholar Athlete of the Year, the conference office announced on Tuesday.

This season alone, Siva has accumulated multiple honors away from the hardwood. After earning a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-District first team, the sociology major landed a spot as the program's second CoSIDA Academic All-American in late February. A second-team pick, Siva boasts a 3.37 cumulative grade-point average and was named Louisville's American Eagle Outfitters Institutional Male Scholar-Athlete, as chosen by the BIG EAST Conference's Academic Affairs Committee.

Just two weeks ago, the Seattle, Wash., native was recognized for his contributions to the community. He was the only BIG EAST player named to the Allstate NABC Good Works Team for his charitable efforts in the areas of volunteerism and civic involvement, which include building homes for the elderly, leading basketball clinics, reading to students and working with children with hearing disabilities.

Currently, he is one of 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award, which honors the attributes of NCAA Division I senior student-athletes in four areas: community, classroom, character and competition.

Here's hoping he tops the week off with some more hardware on Saturday night.
