Congratulations are in order for Russ Smith and Gorgui Dieng, who have both been named first team All-Big East. Peyton Siva was a third team All-Big East honoree.
Gorgui and Russ become just the third and fourth Louisville players to be named first team All-Big East, joining David Padgett (2007-08) and Terrence Williams (2008-09). It's the first time U of L has ever had multiple players named to the first team and just the second time (2005-06) that three total Cards have been honored.
Smith, a 6-0 junior, was second in the BIG EAST in overall scoring, averaging 17.9 points. He was third in steals with a 2.0 mark. Dieng, a 6-11 junior, averaged 10.3 points and 10.1 rebounds in all games. In BIG EAST play, he was the league rebounding champion with a 10.8 average and was second in blocked shots with an average of 2.8.
Smith and Dieng were joined on the first team by unanimous Big East Player of the Year Otto Porter (Georgetown), Jack Cooley (Notre Dame), Bryce Coton (Bryce Cotton!) and Shabazz Napier UConn.
