U of L running backs coach Kenny Carter has interviewed for the open head coaching position at Eastern Michigan. The news was originally reported by Jeremy Fowler of CBS.
Carter, who has been an assistant at eight different places over a 20 year coaching career, came to Louisville in 2010 with Charlie Strong. He's been one of the core members of a tight-knit staff that has remained largely in tact since Strong's arrival. Carter also holds the title of being U of L's special teams coach, although those duties are actually handled by a number of different members of the staff.
If hired at EMU, Carter would be replacing former Louisville defensive coordinator Ron English, who was dismissed on Nov. 8 after the Eagles got off to a 1-8 start. In four-plus seasons, English's teams went just 11-46.
We also can't finish this post without at least mentioning this Carter Q&A from the summer of 2012. It matters not.
