Louisville Signs 7-Foot Center From Norway

Louisville added a surprise commitment to its 2014 class when 7'2 Norwegian center Matz Stockman signed with the Cardinals early Tuesday morning.

How surprising is this? A Google News search for Stockman's name brings up precisely zero results.

What we do know about Stockman is that he's from Oslo, owns a 7'6 wingspan, is a member of the Canarias Basketball Academy, and that he averaged  7.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per game during the U18 European Championships this year.

¨First and foremost, we think this is a tremendous opportunity for Matz," said Rob Orellana, Director of CBA. "Getting the opportunity to train under Hall of Fame Coach, Rick Pitino is the chance of a lifetime. In Matz, Louisville is getting a big man with unlimitted potential. He's every inch of 7'2, has a 7'6 wing span and is extremely agile. He has the potential to be elite, it's just a matter of time."

Canarias is the top basketball academy in Europe, having produced over 50 Division-I players in the last six years. It might be best known for serving as a quasi feeder school for Seton Hall in recent years.

I have no idea if this kid can shoot or dribble, but I'm already cheering for him to shoot a three in the closing seconds of a blowout.
