In what has become a bit of an October tradition in recent years, a handful of high-profile Cardinal athletes are among the 10 semifinalists to be U of L's Homecoming King.
Luke Hancock and Russ Smith are the two potential basketball Cards who could be named king, a title which will be announced during halftime of the homecoming game against Central Florida on Oct. 18 (I think). Each will be trying to follow in the footsteps of former hoops kings Kyle Kuric (2011) and Peyton Siva (2012).
But the potential kings aren't limited to the hardwood, as U of L center Jake Smith also made the cut to be one of the 10 semifinalists. Former Cardinal quarterback Will Stein was a finalist last year.
On the queen side of things, hooper Sara Hammond made the cut for the final 10. A year ago, U of L soccer player Angelika Uremovich won the honor.
You can check out all the nominees for king and queen as well as the schedule of events for homecoming week over at the U of L website.
King Russ, King Luke or King Jake? Who you got? I'm actually going with King Wayne so I can make a bunch of King Ralph jokes/comparisons.
