U of L Officially Announces The Addition Of Mangok Mathiang

Here's the official release on your newest Louisville Cardinal:

Mangok Mathiang, a 6-10, 205-pound forward/center who played last season at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., has signed a financial aid agreement to continue his basketball playing career at the University of Louisville. He has been on campus since the fall semester began at UofL on Monday.

"Mango is extremely quick and agile for a 6-10 player," said UofL Men's Basketball Coach Rick Pitino. "He has a great future because of the way he moves at both the offensive and defensive ends. We're excited to have him as a part of our program."

Mathiang averaged 12 points, 10 rebounds and four blocked shots last season for IMG's postgraduate team, which posted a 28-2 record in 2011-12. Eleven of his IMG teammates signed with NCAA Division I schools.

Born in Sudan, Africa, Mathiang lived in Melbourne, Australia for several years before moving to the United States to play a season of high school basketball at Carbondale (Ill.) Brehm Prep School in 2010-11. While at Brehm Prep, he blocked an event-high seven shots against Princeton Day Academy in the 2011 National Prep School Invitational.

Mathiang chose to attend UofL after also receiving offers from Kansas State, Georgia, Mississippi State, Auburn and Central Michigan.

(name is pronounced MANG-go like the fruit, with a silent "K" MATH-ee-ang)

We've been spending a lot of time talking about "Mangok," but haven't spent nearly enough time focusing on Mathiang. Mathiang definitely deserves some attention. Mathiang definitely needs some attention. I'm really excited that Mathiang will be banging down low in Louisville for the foreseeable future. It should be a great experience for Mathiang.

I'm sorry.
