Louisville Coasts Past Western Kentucky, Turns Focus To UK

Andy Lyons

The fifth-ranked Louisville Cardinals picked up their sixth straight victory on Saturday, defeating in-state rival Western Kentucky 78-55 at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.

Louisville dominated the first half, leading 40-22 after twenty minutes. The Cardinals played particularly well on the defensive end, holding the Hilltoppers to 40 percent shooting from the field. Lousville shot 51 percent from the floor and forced 19 Western Kentucky turnovers.

Wayne Blackshear put together yet another solid performance, scoring 17 points and grabbing nine rebounds while shooting 7-12 from the field and 3-6 from beyond the arc. Chane Behanan had 14 points, while Montrezl Harrell scored 13 points off the Louisville bench.

Despite an extremely quiet first 35 minutes, Russ Smith somehow found a way to finish with a game-high 20 points...because he's Russ Smith.

All right, let's just go ahead and start saying it: Beat Kentucky.
