Ware won't enroll in school, which obviously means he won't be able to workout or practice with the team, but if he gets himself eligible for the spring semester then he'll be able to join the Cards on Dec. 14. An odd situation, to say the least.
Here's the statement from U of L:
Kevin Ware, a 6-4 guard from Conyers, Ga., will not enroll at the University of Louisville this fall after failing to meet NCAA initial eligibility requirements. A waiver and subsequent appeal to the NCAA were both denied.
Ware, who signed a financial aid agreement with the Cardinals in June, will continue to work on improving his standing and if successful, could become eligible for the 2012 spring semester and join the Cardinals as soon as Dec. 14, the day after U of L final examinations.
"I've never seen anyone this close to being eligible," said U of L Coach Rick Pitino. "He is just fractions away and he fully intends to enroll here."
A first-team all-state selection as a senior last season, Ware averaged 13.2 points, 4.1 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 2.2 steals in helping Rockdale County High School post a 26-6 record and finish as the Georgia 4-A state runner-up.
