Big East Preseason Poll: Card Chronicle Ballot

New, 10 comments

Here's the CC ballot for the SB Nation preseason Big East poll, which will be released later today.

1. West Virginia

On paper, this is the best team in the league. Replacing Bill Stewart with Dana Holgorsen should solidify their spot atop any league preseason poll. The Mountaineers had one of the best defenses in the country last season, but failed to score enough points to earn a BCS trip. Offense shouldn't be an issue this year.

2. Pittsburgh

Another team with another new head coach. Pitt dominated the Big East in recruiting during the Dave Wannstedt era, but the Panthers consistently underachieved on the field. Todd Graham has the opportunity to win right away with a solid defense and an able quarterback in Tino Sunseri.

3. South Florida

The Bulls were a top ten team in September and early October under Jim Leavitt, but consistently fell off the edge of the Earth in the second half of the year. That ended last season under new head coach Skip Holtz, whose team got better as the year went on and ultimately upset Clemson in the Meineke Car Care Bowl.

4. Syracuse

The Orange play insanely hard, and a favorable schedule as well as the return of some key contributors should be enough for Doug Marrone to get the back to the postseason.

5. Cincinnati

I'm so tempted to put the Bearcats 7th or 8th because of how closely their current situation mirrors what happened to Louisville under Steve Kragthorpe: program coming off unprecedented success, new coach is a massive failure in year one, returns several key pieces in year two, guarded optimism abounds. People thought the Cardinals would bounce right back in year two because of the remaining talent...

6. Louisville

On paper, this team might belong at least one spot lower, but Charlie Strong simply isn't going to let any team he coaches finish at the bottom of any conference.

7. Connecticut

Hope you enjoyed that BCS thrashing, because you just hired Paul Pasqualoni.

8. Rutgers

Taking that Miami job might have been the better play, Greg.
