Though there are still a few details to be worked it out, it appears that Louisville and Memphis will be renewing their hardwood rivalry beginning next year.
The current plan is for the Cardinals to host the Tigers on Dec. 17 of this year, and then for the pair to meet again at the FedExForum in Memphis in 2012-13. It's a deal that UM coach Josh Pastner says he's been hearing a lot about since arriving on campus.
"I’ve had more fans since I’ve gotten the job come to me and say, ‘Coach, can we play a game against Louisville? Can we get a series going against Louisville?,'" Pastner said. "So this is sort of an opportunity to give back to the fans since they’ve kept us in the top 10 in attendance; to start a series that means so much to Tiger Nation."
Louisville owns a 51-34 advantage in the all-time series with Memphis, but the rivals have not met since the 2005 Conference USA championship game.
Louisville won.
