Six-foot-seven Notre Dame Prep (Mass.) swingman Angel Nunez has committed to Louisville. He chose the Cards over Miami (Fl.), Providence, West Virginia, Kentucky and others.
"Rick Pitino is a great coach who can push me to get to the next level," Nunez said. "They’re a school that recruited me all four years, through my hard times and down times."
Nunez, the 26th best wing in the country according to ESPN, becomes the fourth member of Rick Pitino's Class of 2011. His unexpected commitment would seem to echo the rumors that Tony Wroten is headed to Washington (the worst kept secret on the West Coast), but the bigger question is what it means for Quincy Miller.
As for Nunez, his size, athleticism, vision, lack of hype and outside shooting ability are sure to draw - fairly or unfairly - immediate comparisons to Francisco Garcia. He has a reputation for shying away from contact and not giving maximum effort on the defensive end. Most experts agree that Nunez has, to this point, gotten away on talent alone and that he could be an elite college player if he ever makes a concerted effort to live up to his potential.
Sounds like he's headed to the right place.
I filmed that.
