It's no secret that Doug Beaumont's knee injury will lead to a bigger role for multiple players on offense and special teams. In addition to converted tight end Josh Chichester, offensive coordinator Mike Sanford told C.L. Brown yesterday that freshman Kai Dominguez will be relied upon more with Beaumont out.
"Josh Chichester is a tight end/h-back type guy we're going to probably utilize him a bit more, not as a receiver but in that he'll play a little bit more," Sanford said. "And then Kai Dominguez, he's the next guy. As a freshman he's going to have to step up."
Dominguez, a Montvale, N.J., native, has not played this season. Under normal circumstances the Cards probably would keep him as a redshirt this season. But as Sanford said, "This is where we're at, that's what we've got to do."
Interesting to see Dominguez's name get tossed out there since it was Jarrett Davis who saw snaps against Eastern Kentucky. I'm also a bit surprised that we've seen nor heard anything regarding Damian Copeland to this point.
Show me something, Kai.
