Louisville accepts bid to Beef O'Brady's Bowl

The University of Louisville has accepted an invitation to play in the Beef O' Brady's Bowl in St. Petersburg, Fla. on Dec. 21. The Cards will face former rival Southern Mississippi out of Conference USA.

The game will be played at Tropicana Field and kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ESPN will have the coverage.

This is Louisville's first trip to the postseason since the Cards knocked off Wake Forest in the 2007 Orange Bowl.

"It's a great accomplishment to reach a bowl game in Charlie's first year here," U of L athletic director Tom Jurich said in a released statement. "He and our team have worked hard and done a terrific job getting us to this stage. I know our fans will be excited to follow this team to St. Petersburg."

Southern Miss., which is making its 13th bowl appearance in 14 seasons, finished the regular season 8-4 and boasts one of the top offenses in the country. They average 458 yards of total offense and nearly 38 points per game.

The Cards knocked off the Golden Eagles 25-23 a season ago at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. The pair will meet up again in Hattiesburg, Miss. next season.
