Game Day: Louisville vs. South Florida

New, comments

Game Time: Noon

Location: Papa John's Cardinal Stadium: Louisville, Ky.

Television: ESPNU

Announcers: Rob Stone/David Pollack

Favorite: Louisville by 2.5

All-Time Series: South Florida leads 4-3

Last Meeting: South Florida won 34-22 last year...I'm not saying this game didn't happen, but I have absolutely no recollection of it.

Excitement Level (1-10): 8.8

It's completely irrational, but I really don't want the pipe dream of winning this conference to die for at least another week.

Game Attire: Titus Teague jersey

This was the hardest game attire decision I've had to make in quite some time. The gray shirt is unbeaten at home, and the tumultuous history of the jersey has been well documented. On the other hand, this is a new era, and the jersey just pulled off the biggest and most unexpected/important victory of the season. If there's a chance that we can ride this thing to a season-ending four-game winning streak that could possibly result in a BCS bowl bid, don't you have to take it?

I'm going for it, baby.

Titus, baby.

Also probably long sleeves underneath since it's going to be a chilly morning, baby.

Pre-Game Meal: Assorted McDonald's breakfast items, Krispy Kreme doughnuts, mimosas. This is the high life. This is why I got into this game five years ago.

Predicted Star of the Game: Josh Bellamy

USF's secondary is suspect, Burke's not afraid to throw the ball downfield, and Bellamy hasn't gotten loose in a while. Think big, No. 1.

Bold Prediction: I've been holding off on this one, but here it comes....ready for's comin' regardless......Dominique Brown throws a pass.

Quick Look At South Florida

SCOUTING THE OFFENSE: USF got its rushing game going again in the win over Rutgers, totaling 157 yards on the ground. That was the Bulls' first triple-digit effort since the win over Florida Atlantic. They had only 252 yards rushing in the previous three games combined. The key to success is QB B.J. Daniels. He has thrown nine interceptions in USF's three losses, only two in the five wins.

SCOUTING THE DEFENSE: USF has kept five of eight opponents under 100 yards rushing in a game and is giving up only 120.8 ypg rushing for the season. But the Bulls are one of the most generous teams in the Big East in pass defense, ranking seventh among the eight teams in surrendering 208.2 ypg. That's despite being tied for second in interceptions (eight) and tied for second in sacks (23).

PLAYERS TO WATCH (Besides B.J. Daniels):

RB Moise Plancher -- The senior is coming off his career-best performance after rushing for 135 yards in USF's win over Rutgers. He also had 45 yards receiving. He leads the Bulls in rushing with 498 yards on 101 carries, nearly a 5-yards-per-carry average.

LB Sam Barrington -- Barrington is going to be the point man for a USF defense that is going to take on the challenge of stopping Louisville's running game. He leads the Bulls in tackles with 47 stops, three of them for losses.

WR Dontavia Bogan -- Bogan has big-play capability at receiver. He leads the Bulls with 29 catches for 432 yards despite missing one game because of injury.

--South Florida's team flight was delayed five hours because of a computer issue, and the team did not land in Louisville until 9:45 Friday night.

--With Adam Froman sidelined by a leg injury, senior Justin Burke will make his second straight start at quarterback for Louisville.

--The road team has never won a game in this series. Louisville is 3-0 against the Bulls at PJCS and 0-4 in Tampa.

--Today marks the first time in more than a month that South Florida has played on a Saturday.

--The Bulls are 5-0 this season when scoring more than 14 points, and 0-3 when held under that mark.

--Louisville has not won back-to-back Big East games since its league championship season of 2006.

--Over the last three games, the Louisville defense has been one of the stingiest in the country, allowing 235.2 yards of total offense and 121.7 yards through the air. Louisville has limited its opponents to just one passing touchdown in the last three games.

--Just two of the seven games in this series have been decided by less than ten points. Louisville has a 19.7 margin of victory in games in the series in which they win, while USF has an average margin of victory of 21 points per game.

--There are 25 natives of Florida on Louisville's roster.

--In South Florida's last two games, quarterback B.J. Daniels went 23 of 33 for 435 yards and four TDs. In the Bulls' three losses, he threw nine interceptions.

--"If (B.J. Daniels) can get outside on the perimeter, that's where he makes his best plays. We have to be very careful trying to blitz him. We have to contain him in the pocket and let our front get on him, so we won't blitz as much as we have in the past." --Vance Bedford

--"Everybody is quick to tell me we've never won at Louisville." --Skip Holtz

--"We felt like we could get it going, just didn't know how soon. We didn't know if it was going to be this year or next year. But when you have that opportunity, you just take advantage of it and that's what we're doing right now."--Charlie Strong

--"I think (Powell's) the most explosive running back we've faced this year." --USF defensive coordinator Mark Snyder

--"We're trying to stay away from the circus mentality, of if this.. then this.  We're trying to stay away from that, because if we don't beat Louisville the if this, then thises don't matter.  What we've got to do right now is we've just got to turn and put our focus and our sights on Louisville, and say right now we're in a one game season." --Skip Holtz

--"I think he's (Johnny Patrick) the best corner that we've seen probably going all the way back to Florida (on Sept. 11)." --Skip Holtz

--"You don't want to go let your teammates down. I wasn't worried about me; I was worried about going out and performing for my teammates and this program." --Justin Burke

--"This is a team with accountability and trust. We are respectful toward one another. It builds each game and it has to keep building. Each guy has to know his role and how important it is to be a part of our football team. How physical we play is a key to us." --Charlie Strong

CC Prediction: Louisville 27, South Florida 21

Let's. Go.
