What to watch: 3/10/08

CAA Championship: William & Mary vs. George Mason (7 p.m./ESPN)

Bill & Mary pulled off the biggest shocker of the postseason to this point when it clipped Virginia Commonwealth by two on Sunday, depriving the CAA of the Mason/VCU showdown you know it wanted. A Patriot win guarantees a disappointed reaction from the fan base of one lower seed on Selection Sunday.

MAAC Championship: Siena vs. Rider (7 p.m./ESPN2)

This tournament was on SNY all weekend, and it was an absolute blast to watch. Both teams were tested in their semifinal games, but Kenny Hasbrouck and the Loyola coaching staff bailed out Siena, and soon-to-be first round NBA Draft pick Jason Thompson did the same for Rider to ensure a 1 vs. 2 final. The big question for the Broncs is whether or not Ryan Thomspon - Jason's little brother and the team's second leading scorer - will play tonight, after sustaining a concussion in the quarterfinal game against Canisius which forced him to sit out yesterday's contest.

If Rider springs the mild upset, then my conference tourney picks will likely finish the evening off to a 7-0 start. Yes, I would like a cookie, because they're delicious.

Sun Belt Semifinals: South Alabama vs. Middle Tennessee State (7:30/MASN/ESPN Plus)

Bo McCalebb and New Orleans put the fear of God into the top-seeded Jaguars on Sunday, but USA held on to win 81-77. Now the only thing standing between them and the conference title game is Middle Tennessee State, the team that shocked them in last year's quarterfinals.

Big East Women's Semifinals: Louisville vs. West Virginia (8 p.m./ESPNU)

If you missed yesterday's game you missed a landmark victory for the program, the greatness that is Angel McCoughtry, and one of the best executed trick plays (in any sport) of 2008. I'm interested to see what the ladies have in store for an encore.

WCC Championship: Gonzaga vs. San Diego (9 p.m./ESPN)

Rough turnaround for the host Torreros, whose double overtime win over St. Mary's didn't wrap up until about 11:30 local time last night. Fans of bubble teams the world over have their Austin Daye replica jerseys on.

SoCon Championship: Davidson vs. Elon (9 p.m./ESPN2)

The Wildcats have rolled through this tournament just as furiously as they rolled through the regular season, and shouldn't have all that much trouble dispatching of seventh-seeded Elon, even though the Phoenix played them tough in their two previous meetings. I hear the Curry kid's a pretty decent player.

Sun Belt Semifinals: Western Kentucky vs. Arkansas-Little Rock (10 p.m./MASN/ESPN Plus)

Western struggled a little bit with defending champ North Texas last night, but the 'Toppers pulled away late and now must knock off West Division champions UALR to keep their NCAA Tournament hopes alive.

Courtney Lee is like, the truth, and stuff.
