Justin Martin commits to Louisville

Rick Pitino got his second commitment from the Indianapolis Lawrence North basketball team when junior forward Justin Martin verballed to Louisville on Monday.

Despite spending his sophomore season playing for the LN junior varsity team, the 6-foot-7, 200-pound Martin made enough of a splash during the summer to be rated as the 36th best prospect in the class of 2010 by Scout.com and the 38th best by Rivals.com.

"It came down to coach Pitino and how they prepare players there for not only basketball but life and in academics," Martin told The Courier-Journal. "He doesn't look at it as just basketball but also life after basketball. He pushes you to be the best that you can be, and I really liked that."

At Louisville, Martin will be reunited with current teammate Stephen Van Treese, who pledged his allegiance to Pitino a little more than a month ago.

Martin is advertised as a lights-out shooter who will need to work on his ball-handling skills in order to be able to create his own shot at the next level. He's highly skilled and athletic, but will need to put on a significant amount of weight before taking the floor in a Big East conference game.

Martin joins San Diego center Jeremy Tyler and Huntsville forward Josh Langford as members of the Cardinal recruiting class of 2010.
