Chauntise Wright out for the year

Huge blow for Jeff Walz and the women's team. University of Louisville center Chauntise Wright is out for the women's basketball season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee during Friday’s practice. The 6-foot-3 senior started all 36 games last season for the Cardinals. She averaged 11. 4 points and led the Big East Conference while shooting 60.5 percent from the field. "We were playing defense and I went to stop and change directions when my knee buckled," Wright said. "I didn’t hear it pop so I didn’t think it was my ACL." Wright’s MRI on Friday proved otherwise. She said doctors believed her ACL was partially torn from her July accident when she was hit by a truck crossing the street. Coach Jeff Walz said Wright, who along with Angel McCoughtry and Candyce Bingham are the team’s only seniors, would be able to apply for a fifth year of eligibility. "I came in with Angel so not being able to play with her our senior year is kind of hard," Wright said.
