Western Kentucky became the second team from the Commonwealth in three Thursdays to defeat Middle Tennessee State, knocking off the host Blue Raiders 20-17.
While MTSU (0-4) managed to rush for 264 yards and rack up 554 total yards three weeks ago against Louisville, Western - playing with basically the same team that went 6-5 in Division I-AA last year - held the Blue Raiders to just 116 yards on the ground and 286 total yards of offense. In fact, in Middle Tennessee's three other games against Western, Florida Atlantic and LSU, they've accumulated a combined 595 total yards of offense, just 41 more than the they finished with against the Cards.
As embarrassing as this is for U of L fans, it's great for Western which will become a full-fledged member of the Sun Belt in 2009.
In other non-con news, Murray State played last night, getting doubled up by OVC foe Tennessee Tech. Coming off of a big win over UCLA, Utah will play at UNLV on Saturday, NC State will look to the spring the upset at home against Clemson, and Kentucky travels to Arkansas.
