U of L junior Angel McCoughtry scored 17 points and hauled down nine rebounds as the United States defeated Brazil 79-66 to win its first Pan American Games gold medal in women's basketball since 1987.
"We played together and kept our composure," said McCoughtry, who again did her damage as a reserve. "That gave us the win."
The host Brazilians led 53-49 after three quarters, but Rutgers star Mattee Ajavon scored 15 of her game-high 27 in the final quarter to lead the U.S. to victory.
"It's a big win for our country," Ajavon said. "We are all young players, but we want to represent our country well."
Congrats again to the Cardinal superstar on all her success this summer.
