Louisville closer Trystan Magnuson became the highest MLB Draft pick in U of L history today when he was chosen by the Toronto Blue Jays with the 56th overall selection.
The 6-7 Magnuson, who throws in the low to mid-90s, has nine saves and a 3-1 record to go along with a sparkling 1.02 ERA. Opponents are hitting just .183 against the right-handed Manual High School product.
I can say this now because he was just chosen in the second round of the Major League baseball draft and I'm just a dude with a blog, but I played AAU and All Star ball with Trystan for three years, and he was not a starter on any of those teams. And as has been reported numerous times over the last few weeks, he was cut from the Manual baseball team in both his sophomore and junior years of high school. If you're a parent reading this and you have a child who is an aspiring ball player, Trystan Magnuson's story of hard work and perseverance is one definitely worthy of telling.
