Lamar Alston and Jonathan Holston Dismissed From Team

Junior cornerback Lamar Alston and sophomore defensive end Jonathan Holston have been dismissed from the U of L football team by new head coach Steve Kragthorpe.

Kragthorpe did not say specifically what the two players had done, or not done.

Holston was pegged as a possible starter last summer before he suffered a spiral fracture of the leg in practice which forced him to miss the beginning of the season and appear in just three games. Alston, who appeared in 12 games a year ago, spent the spring backing up Rod Council at left cornerback and played very well in the Spring Game.

Neither player's dismissal is a big hit to the defense, considering that Alston would have likely spent the summer fighting for a second string spot, and U of L's defensive line is arguably the deepest in the Big East.

I'm not going to speculate on the transgressions committed here, but is good to see Coach Kragthorpe bringing down the hammer on guys who may have tried to take advantage of his reputation of being a "player's coach."

More info as it arrives.
