New Scoring Format In Place For Spring Game

Those tired of spring practice ending with the first teamers humiliating the second teamers in front of a crowd of thousands are in for a treat Friday night.

For the first time, the annual Red-White game will pit the offense against the defense. New head coach Steve Kragthorpe has implemented a fresh scoring system for the game that will allow the fans to see the first team offense take on the first team defense, and the second team offense to take on the second team defense and so on.

The scoring is the same for the offense as it is in a regular game, but for the defense the scoring system is as follows:

A stop = 2 points
A three-and-out = 3 points
A turnover = 6 points
A turnover returned for a touchdown = 7 points

Kickoff is slated for 7:30 Friday night, and as always admission and parking are free.

The 2006 senior class will be honored at halftime, and the awards for the Big East and Orange Bowl championship season will also be handed out. After the game, fans will be allowed on the field for a 30-minute autogprah session with the players.
