Louisville Names Bill... Jeff Walz as Women's Basketball Coach

Wow, what a remarkable 24 hours. The online plane tracking, the premature news reports, the head-spinning contract rumors...all a thing of the past because WE'VE GOT OUR MAN IN JEFF WALZ!!!

No offense Jeff, happy to have you.

Press release:

Kentucky native Jeff Walz, an associate head coach at Maryland the last five years, has been named the new head coach of the Louisville women's basketball team announced Vice President and Director of Athletics Tom Jurich today. Walz is considered one of the top assistants in the nation after helping the University of Maryland to the 2006 National Championship.

"I couldn't be more excited about the addition of Jeff to our athletic family," said Jurich. "This addition gives us long-term stability with our rising program in one of the finest conferences in the nation. He is a great strategic coach, is a well-known recruiter, is very highly respected among his peers and is simply a great fit for U of L. Jeff is one of a few select coaches that I've had my eye on and no matter how many people we talked to, Jeff's name came to the forefront. He has been a part of nine NCAA Tournament teams, including a national championship at Maryland. We are looking for great success here under Jeff's guidance."

Walz has spent the last five seasons on the Maryland bench. His career highlights include helping guide his teams to nine NCAA Tournaments, one WNIT appearance and one National Championship.
