Williams, Sosa Earn Weekly Blogger Poll Honors

Our friends over at the Big East Basketball Report released their weekly blogger power poll and notebook Monday, and a pair of U of L players benefitted from the impressive week the Cardinal basketball team had. The panel of 17 bloggers voted Terrence Williams the conference's player of the week, and Edgar Sosa the Big East freshman of the week.

The Big East itself opted to go with Marquette's Dominic James and Notre Dame's Luke Harangody for the pair of honors.

The Cardinals rose two spots from #11 to #9 in the power poll, surprisingly settling in directly behind a Providence team they just defeated by 15 points. Pitt was the unanimous choice for the league's top spot, followed by Notre Dame, Syracuse, Marquette and West Virginia. Georgetown edged Uconn for the sixth spot by just a point while Villanova was just three points shy of overtaking U of L for ninth. Depaul, Seton Hall, St. John's, South Florida, Rutgers and Cincinnati rounded out the poll.

The Card Chronicle ballot was as follows:

  1. Pitt
  2. Syracuse
  3. Notre Dame
  4. Marquette
  5. West Virginia
  6. Georgetown
  7. Connecticut
  8. Louisville
  9. Providence
  10. Depaul
  11. Villanova
  12. Seton Hall
  13. St. John's
  14. Rutgers
  15. Cincinnati
  16. South Florida
T-Will was CC's pick for player of the week, while Seton Hall's Eugene Harvey got our nod for freshman of the week.
