Shawn Bowen Benefit Goes Big for $14,000!

Guys,

Things got so hectic, with the full house and bidding in the last few hours, that we couldn't keep it updated on-line.

The BBC Event raised an estimated $5000, the Scramble raised $9700--so almost $15000 PLUS the  roughly $7000 contributed to shawnbowen.net so far....for  a grand total of about $22,000!

I did take several call-in bids that were successful.  If you must know ASAP if you won, just pm Jerb, and he can find out for you.

The Bowen family will be contacting all winners tomorrow for credit card info, etc.  You may pick your items up at my office M-F 9a- 5p, at The Summit Executive Center, 4350 Brownsboro Rd., 40207 at the intersection with Hubbards lane. (NOT THE SUMMIT SHOPPING CENTER.) There are two bldgs-enter the one further up the hill.  Then go down one floor to Suite 110.  Call if lost,  to my office: 893-4586.

YOU CAN PICK UP ITEMS AFTER 1 PM TOMORROW (MON 11/10).

Thanks everyone!

Turning Point? Pics & Commentary - S. Fla

S-fl-grothe-great-pic2976752866_b85d480948_medium

"That’s the Ron English coming out in them.""

Eric Wood describing the blitzing intensity  in the Card defense in the last two crucial defensive stands.

********************************************************************************

Ladies and gentlemen… we have a legitimate football team.

No, I’m not proclaiming greatness, not even suggesting top 20 status quite yet.

But I’m telling you this:  We have an entertaining, top 30, constantly -improving team with heart, determination–and now optimism.

KyLures again took some great shots of the game.

http://hellinthehall.wordpress.com/2008/10/26/the-defense-stands-cards-24-bulls-20/

And this time I also decided to assess just where we stand for the stretch run, after this key win...

Enjoy the photos!

Nov 8 - Shawn Bown Challenge Golf Scramble & BBC Silent Auction

Bumped from diaries

Ck out this latest info on the soon- upcoming November 8 events to raise funds for the benefit of Shawn Bowen and his family, during this challenging time.

golfauctionflyerfinal_web1

A full day of activities for Card fans for a most worthwhile cause.  Starting with a golf scramble at Oxmoor Country Club, with a plethora of worthwhile door prizes as goodies–including a car for a hole in one… meanwhile non-golfing Card fans kick off the silent auction  at the BBC at noon…and  then kick back and take in the away U of L - Pitt football game….

Soon joined by the golfers…. and we all can watch the Card BBall away exhibition game–or a replay of the Pitt game for the golfers.  And  finish off the silent auction bidding…

The silent auction.  That bears some special mention.   Over $10,000 in donated items, many one-of-a-kind.

For a list of the  more unique  items,  from the more than 30 items available, http://hellinthehall.wordpress.com/2008/10/20/shawn-bowen-challenge-golf-scramble-bbc-silent-auction/ .  BTW,  I am sworn to secrecy on the “Special Guest.”  I will simply say he shoots a solid golf game and … and that as a Card fan you’d die and go to heaven to play golf one-on-one with him for a round.

Even if you don’t play golf…

Pics of the Middle Tennessee Game

Well, you see, he just got a new 800 mm lens and had to use that bad boy....

So here are the 700+ pics of the Middle Tennessee game, taken by Hell in the Hall's  photographer, Matt (Kylures), for all Card fans.

Those of you who remember his Tennessee Tech game photos know the high quality of his work.  You’re in for a treat again.

Matt took photos of the pre-game, families and kids, Ladybirds and cheerleaders, the band…and, oh yeah, a few pics of game too.

Enjoy!

It's time for the barefoot guy !

Our barefoot kicker, Ryan Payne, will get his shot tonight at Memphis.  He's #1 as of yesterday.

Like our fearless leader, Mike, I have acquired a (un) healthy fascination with a guy who kicks footballs.

In Mike's defense, Art Carmody was indeed god.

In my defense, Ryan Payne kicks a football with his bare foot.

Now, god vs. bare foot may not seem quite on an equal, uhh, footing.

However, consider:  It really hurts when you kick a football with your bare foot in cold weather.  Even Ryan admitted in his interview with me, that it really "stings."

http://hellinthehall.wordpress.com/2008/09/12/interview-ryan-payne/

But, hey, in the same breath he insists that he has practiced a lot  in the cold, and is fearless about it.

I have heard that Coach K is very concerned about him kicking barefoot in the cold...is K makes him wear a shoe, Ryan has told me it may will screw up his mechanics at this juncture.

For those of you (like me) that are having a hard time whipping up enthusiasm to watch two lower tier teams beat on each other, here's your chance to perk up a bit.

Ryan is a "Rudy' kind of guy...he's a walk-on, and has played soccer all his life--until his father asked him to try to kick a football...less than 2 yrs ago!

I'm going to be watching and cheering for this underdog...and also hoping some control freak doesn't make him wear a shoe.

UPDATE: Nov 8 -Day-Long Benefit for Jerb & his Son

November 8 will feature a day long series of activities to raise money for Jerb's son, Shawn.

First, the golf scramble will take place. Arrangements have been made with Oxmoor Country Club for Saturday, Nov 8th, time TBA but you can count on it being in the morning.  Here are the details so far:

$75 per person, or $300 per team. That will include a buffet lunch  (hotdogs, hamburgers, etc.), green fees and cart. The course is being very generous in what they are charging us so we should be able to really help Jerb out.

Then the golfers will head to the  BBC in St. Matthews , where the silent auction will take place, and where we can watch the away game against Pitt (time TBA).  (And maybe see some Ladybirds, cheerleaders and former players.)

The blogs Card Game, Card Empire, and  Ditchball , have signed on so far as co-sponsors with Hell in the Hall for  this event with the BBC.  I thank all the Card bloggers--particularly our fearless leader Mike-- for publicizing this event (FYI, this site is the largest free blog site).  The surge of PR produced instant results-- we have already reached our initial modest goal of $2500 in donations.

Now, we're shooting for  nice round $10,000 !

The items for the silent auction at the BBC will be spectacular.

Here's a sampling of the goodies that will be there (first from Chris at Card Empire):

“Quick update, Frank. I got in touch with the KC Chiefs, Sacramento Kings, and Oakland Raiders. The Chiefs and Raiders said they should definitely be able to get something for us from Kolby Smith and Michael Bush. The Kings asked me to send them an email, but they also thought it wouldn’t be a problem to get a couple items from Theus and Garcia. The Falcons and Broncos asked me to send letters to Harry Douglas, Chris Redman, and Elvis Dumervil. Those went out this morning.”

In addition to this, others are getting BBalls signed by Coach Pitino and the players, BBalls signed by Coach Crum and former players, and I'm getting various other cool souvenirs donated.

The BBC is donating 10% of its net proceeds to the benefit and also is arranging for live music.

Card fans, if you have items for the BBC auction please email me at frankpos@hellinthehall.com or call me 807-3153, ahead of time so we can work up the auction sheets and coordinate.

If you want to participate in the golf scramble, please contact Bryan at blinde@diversifiedmtg.net or at 594-8962.

I will continue to post updates as things develop.

Frank

Jerb needs help from all Card fans!

If you are a Card fan, you have  probably run across one or more posts from Jerb- he is the one who has been kind enough to upload a million different videos for those of us not able to watch games or just looking for copies of older games.

Anyway, his 5 year old son has just been diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and has a very rough time ahead as does his whole family.  So we are trying to come up with a few ideas on how to raise some money to help the family get through this situation with one less thing to worry about.

Here are 2 events being held on November 8--  Jerb Day

1) BBC and Hell in the Hall will sponsor a day  for Jerb and his son at the BBC in St. Matthews on Saturday, November 8.

The other Card bloggers are lining up to sponsor/contribute.

There will be a silent auction--so there's where we put those RP signed BBalls and the other memorabilia you guys can come up with.

There will also be music...don't know who yet.

There will also be an away game with Pitt to watch (time TBA)

Will also try to get the Ladybirds and cheerleaders-- and anything else we all can think of.

Pat Hagan, owner of BBC, is celebrating their anniversary the Sat before (9/1), and will also put donation boxes for Jerb out for that big event.

2) A charity golf outing is being organized and is scheduled for Nov 8th at Oxmoor CC.    Foursomes are preferred but anything is better than nothing.

http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s...5&t=3112675

3) If you can not make either event, but are still interested in donating to a worthy cause, here is a website set-up for the cause.

http://shawnbowen.net/

Every one of us has enjoyed Jerb's labors for us over the years...now, let's help Jerb and his son!

Poll: Who Wants "Proper" Revenge on UCONN?

Yeah, our coaches and team can spout all the pre-game drivel about the Taylor-thing being all in the past, yada, yada...

But...do YOU want "proper"  revenge on UCONN?

Revenge that goes beyond just playing hard and winning...

Revenge that is apparently  going to take me another 35 words to describe because of this damn 75 word limit that is imposed arbitrarily by some techie in a back room reading comics...but I digress...

Poll
Do YOU want "proper" revenge on UConn?
Yes! Nail UCONN's first "fair-catcher."

Yes! Do a "Charlie Weis' on Edsall with a power sweep into his lap.

No! Stay classy, just play hard and win.

Maybe...depends on game situation, opportunity --and the amount of bourbon I consume

To The Fake, and other Blue fans who come to visit

Dear UK Guys,

I'm sure you're great guys.  It's nothing against any of you personally.

I tried to explain this to Tru Blue a couple of wks ago...

U of L fans over 40 particularly just don't want to interact with UK fans--read my 1983 Dream Game article at Hell in the Hall  to understand if you're under 40...

But I'd also say U of L fans generally just don't want the interaction.

Here's a good example:  My sisters are both UK fans.  I love my sisters--but I don't like to watch UK- U of L ball games with them, or get into much discussion on U of L  and UK.  Why have the aggravation?

Likewise, I just don't like to have to read/deal with UK fans on Card msg boards --don't need the aggravation.  I want to just interact with Card fans.

I never get on any UK boards--don't understand why you all even want to be here.

So again, it's nothing personal--but please go away  ; - )

Real Sincerely,

Frankpos

GO CARDS!
