Jeff Brohm also to Illinois

I'll go ahead and say it: if these guys go to the Rose Bowl next year, I'm gonna be pissed. Remember the dynamic Louisville offense from the middle part of the decade? Illinois head coach Ron Zook hopes to recreate it. Zook is hiring three former Louisville assistants to handle Illinois' offense in a make-or-break 2010 season. Paul Petrino, most recently the offensive coordinator at Arkansas, takes the same job in Champaign. Petrino served as offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach at Louisville from 2003-06 before following his older brother Bobby to the Atlanta Falcons and then to Arkansas. Though the move from Arkansas to Illinois might seem a bit odd, Paul Petrino now will get to call his own plays (Bobby handled the Razorbacks' play-calling duties). Greg Nord, who spent the past 15 years on Louisville's coaching staff, heads to Illinois to coach tight ends. And Jeff Brohm, the former Louisville offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach who most recently held the same titles at Florida Atlantic, will coach QBs for Illinois, according to colleague Bruce Feldman.

The Louisville football program is a disaster

It's bad news if Jeff Brohm is out at U of L

I concur with Mr. Bozich. Word is percolating that University of Louisville football coach Steve Kragthorpe will announce his shuffled staff Monday afternoon. Here is the safest prediction of the day: Assistant head coach and offensive coordinator Jeff Brohm will become the sixth coach to exit the Cardinals' program since the completion of the 5-7 season. He'll also be the fifth coordinator to leave during Kragthorpe's two-plus seasons. No matter how U of L spins this one, it's not encouraging news. Brohm is a bright, engaging and imaginative guy whose career flourished under former Cards coach Bobby Petrino. His sweat equity in the program is considerable. The decision Jeff made to decline offers from Notre Dame, Southern California, Kentucky and others to play for Howard Schnellenberger at U of L when he was a Trinity senior two decades ago delivered a powerful message about the aspirations of the Cards' program. What I don't want to hear is Brohm being made the latest scapegoat for the struggles of the program. First it was former defensive coordinator Mike Cassity. Then Petrino. Now Brohm? At this rate, U of L runs the risk of having more scapegoats than victories next season.

Eleven reasons why we should all be excited about the 2008 season

I recently spent a significant amount of time number crunching (in front of some kids at a daycare where they have those soft blocks shaped like numbers; I'm told it was all very traumatizing) and...
