Least Cool Person of 2007-2008 quarterfinals: 4) Tyler Hansbrough vs. 5) Jeremy Hazell

All right, the tourney opener was the massacre we all could have predicted it was going to be (Catraiva Givens is just that cool), but now it's time for what I believe should be a highly competitive 4/5 tilt.

4) TYLER HANSBROUGH - Forward, North Carolina

Rap Sheet:

--Scored 28 points including several key outside jumpers late in the game to almost single-handedly guide North Carolina past Louisville in the Elite Eight.

--Unofficially committed 72 fouls that went uncalled.

--His monster follow-up dunk was pretty embarrassing and enormously deflating.

--Annoying North Carolina fans love him.

Redeeming Qualities:

--Only uncool thing he really did was play amazingly well against us in a big game.

--Would likely be considered highly cool if he played for us.

VS.
5) JEREMY HAZELL - Guard, Seton Hall

Rap Sheet:

--Hit 8-of-14 three-pointers and scored 29 points in a shocking 92-82 upset loss to the Pirates.

--Averaged just 12.8 ppg and shot 33% from deep for the season.

--Gave Bobby Gonzalez reason to act like a tool.

--Held his right hand up a little too long after several of his second-half treys.

--Was a 22-year-old freshman (kind of uncool).

Redeeming Qualities:

--Plays for non-rival and non-major competitor in the Big East.

--Like Hansbrough, didn't really do anything highly uncool besides have a career night against our favorite team.

So who will move on to face the extremely impressive Larry Taylor in the second round? Your votes will decide.

UPDATE: Your winner by a single vote (121/120)....TYLER HANSBROUGH

It has to be Hazell

Tyler at least showed some class during the game.

Agreed

I don't like Hansbrough, but it wasn't as though he had a career game against us and acted like he was the king.  He did to us what he had been doing most of the season (except against Kansas).  Hazell, however, decided to blow up against us, and then act like he was Kobe.  Uncool.

Yep

Gotta go with Hazell. My deciding factor was that Hazell's great game emboldebed Bobby Gonzalez to strut around like the cock of the walk. Gonzalez has shown himself to be a psycho nutjob as well as a complete prick, and when you add smugness to this equation--well, I just couldn't bear it. While the Cards Elite Eight loss to UNC was more disappointing, I found our loss to Gonzalez to be far more irritating.

Hansbrough

I was on the fence but he looks a little too douchey in that picture.

by Peter McSheisty on Wed May 07, 2008 at 03:27:13 PM EDT

Thats what it is....

He looks like Hayden Christensen as evil Anakin Skywalker. He's too wholesome to be intimidating.

Ewwww, scary.

I hate Bobby Gonzalez with a passion

but Tyler Hansborough making one of the most insane performances of his life against us, then turning around and completely falling apart against Kansas makes him more uncool than Hazell.  Which is hard to do.

obviously...

by the looks of that eye, it certainly didn't happen at a home game.....wait a minute, aren't all of their games home games?????  They leave home; they get beat.  Yeah.

What a picture

It has to be Psycho T...he ended our season.  Hazell just caused me to be pissed for a 1/2 of a week.

Hazzell has it by an ear

I hate Psycho T and his stupid "Texas Style" ping pong game.  The jumping off a 2 story Frat house definitely "uncool".  Yet, Hazell and his gigantic ears edged it out.  I think it was the fact that I had to spend 2 hours starring at those dam ears distracting our boys into playing Bad D.  Then Bobby Gonzalez's bad hair dye scared me even more.  I haven't had bad dreams during the night like that since I watched the Exorcist when I was twelve.

I voted for Hansbrough

mainly because I dont think I will ever here Jeremy Hazzels name again and will have to hear "pyscho T" (gayest nickname ever) a lot next year. But the jumping off the frat house was about the only cool thing he has ever done. If you go back and look at the pic of the other kid jumping off the frat house, look at tyler on the balcony hitting on some whale.

Texas votes

I see Hazzell is hated in Texas.  I stand corrected, "Texas Style" ping pong does carry weight.

The guy named Psycho-T

I say hansbrough....

TH is a monster (or victim depending how you look at it) of too much media exposure... and anyone that Vitale gushes over/ gets hard talking about is automatically on my shit list.

Uh oh

We've got a race.

I'm also hearing that the St. Matthews and Springhurst are going to be among the final areas to report their data, news that likely bodes well for the Hansbrough team.

Pyscho T

I have a suspicious feeling that it was his girlfriend who threw my hat...plus he looks like a fag when he runs down the court

by dan on Wed May 07, 2008 at 09:00:16 PM EDT

Very interesting data coming in right now

Thanks for staying up late with us.

Tyler Hansbrough is still holding onto a very slim lead, but Jeremy Hazell is now actually carrying the state of Kentucky at 52/48. It seems as though the Pirate sharpshooter is the uncool choice in the more populated states, as he currently holds leads in New York, Texas, California, Pennsylvania and Nevada.

This poll will officially close at Noon tomorrow, so the next 10 hours or so should be exciting.

I would like to be a SUPERDELEGATE here...

Despite the popular vote, I am envoking my right as a superdelegate to move Hazell past Physcho T on this one.  Hazell is a decent player who went off (see the brazilian guy from BYU)...Physcho T is the concensus CPOY, he played a terrific game, among many others he had played this year and despite the fact that refs let him get away w/ fouls, I hold no grudge against him...Hazell, I couldn't watch what little Seton Hall highlights I had to the rest of the year because of that little prick.

So there you have it.  In the tradition of Bush v Gore and Clinton v Obama....Hazell MUST move on!

by jerb2 on Thu May 08, 2008 at 04:36:52 PM EDT

I also voted for Hazell

But, really, this was basically the equivalent of an 8/9 death match with '05 UNC waiting in the second round. I can't envision either giving Mr. Taylor much of a struggle.

The vote stands: 121 to 120 in favor of (ugh) Psycho T.
