Pitino a finalist for Coach of the Year

Yay press releases:

The other nominees are: Rick Barnes (Texas); Keno Davis (Drake); John Calipari (Memphis); Mike Krzyzewski  (Duke); Lon Kruger  (UNLV); Sean Miller (Xavier); Matt Painter (Purdue); Bruce Pearl (Tennessee); Rick Pitino (Louisville); Bo Ryan (Wisconsin); and Kevin Stallings (Vanderbilt).

Finalists will be announced later this month, with the winner announced at the Final Four in San Antonio in April.

The USBWA also announced its nominations for the Oscar Robertson Trophy presented to the college player of the year: D.J. Augustin (Texas); Michael Beasley (Kansas State); Chris Douglas- Roberts (Memphis); Shan Foster (Vanderbilt); Tyler Hansbrough (North Carolina); Luke Harangody (Notre Dame); Robbie Hummel (Purdue); Kevin Love (UCLA); A.J. Price (Connecticut); D.J. White (Indiana).

My first reaction after reading that: good for Rick. He probably doesn't have much of a shot at actually winning the award, but being a finalist is a solid accomplishment.

My second reaction after reading that: Ummm, Robbie Hummel??? Don't get me wrong, kid's a nice little combo guard/forward, I mean he might actually be the best player on his team. But one of the ten best players in the country? I believe something has clouded your judgment.

That's fantastic
We're pretty much unanimous in the top spot.

Unfortunately, probably not true in football.  We're not the worst -- I'm looking at you, couch-burners -- but we've got to be down the list.  Thirty years ago, we used to be very classy about taking our beatings at the fairgrounds.

Holy Hell
" On top of that, when my friends went to breakfast the next morning wearing their Georgetown gear, a Lousiville fan actually paid for their meal (over $150), because he didn't want us to leave Louisville without getting something. Obviously that's an anamolous situation, but generally their fans were knowledgable and classy even when they were giving us the business."

Now that is a U of L fan!

Hummel's Hair
The dude with a bad haircut can ball, but he is definitely out of place with those other players.

Rick (and Farley)
Truth is Mr. Pitino has done a terrific job this year, so congratulations are in order.  And congratulations to the CJ for doing the piece on Terrance Farley.  He's deserving of the attention.
