The Ladybirds distract other teams

http://insider.espn.go.com/ncb/insider/news/story?id=4670728

I think that we probably all could have guessed this, but the Ladybirds are so attractive that they actually distract other teams. Yet another reason why we have such a great home court advantage.

Brohm could beat T.O. in a fist fight.

Well, actually, this is probably pretty far from the truth.... but, you may get an answer sooner than you think. Looks like coaching changes in Buffalo have resulted in a shuffling of the depth chart , and, most importantly the acquistion of a QB some of you might know.

Brohm out of the Frozen Tundra

T.O. to Brohm could become the next big thing... I at least know one thing, Brohm is probably damn tired of the cold weather. Green Bay? Buffalo? Neither make my list of vacation destinations.

Bozich Fires Point-Blank at Kragthorpe

Hmmm,

when U of L's SID gives the signal to C-J's senior sports writer

to call for a U of L Koach's head

the change may well come sooner

than later (after the season.)

Siva on SC top ten...

Anybody notice peyton siva on sc top ten yesterday? And he was on there (#2) after the bellarmine game for that backwards dunk. And i saw him on there last spring in high school. Thats 3 times on sportscenter top ten before his second game in college. I like this kid a lot...his swagger is off the charts!!

I think his game is going to be ridiculous before he's done here.

Go cards! Go cards! Go cards! Go cards!

Conversation from Double-T Nation (Texas Tech SBNation Blog) About Mike Leach and Louisville

http://www.doubletnation.com/2009/11/16/1159512/leach-rumors-start-early

If we're speculating, we might as well see what they're speculating.

Some of the better points of conversation:

My question to all of you and the folks in Louisville is “why would you want to hire a coach coming off a perhaps 7-4 or 6-6 season”? The alums and admin will want nothing to do with that. The coaching profession is all about striking while the iron is hot and Leach was firey hot last year, not this year. This year proves that there is much work to be done and why should he leave to start all over again given next year’s team and the incoming recruits. No school wants a coach coming off an average season and has yet to win any conference titles . . . - WreckerRaider

IMHO, you guys are right on the money as to why this rumor makes litle sense, and thus probably trash. However, the notion that our coaches name is mentioned often, and with wreckless abandon doesn’t fly. The reason his name has come up in the past is because, in fact, he was shopping... - TTUMAR

...Leach is going no where. He’s got one of the best paying contracts in college football today. Is on the verge of putting an exclamation point on what will be 10 years of extraordinary development, strategy, and accomplishment for a program that should always be indebted to him. The double TT and Leach brand are inseparable. He retires a Red Raider the
ultimate “rebel” (pirate)! - Raiderit

T-Will and Earl Clark, how are they doing in the NBA?

Glad you asked. I won't get too far into advanced stats, but I will throw out some stats right now.

Earl Clark

YR TM G GS MIN FG FG% 3P 3P% FT FT% STL BLK TO PF OFF DEF TOT AST PTS
09-10 PHO 9 0 10.9 1.4-3.9 .371 0.0-0.0 .000 0.1-0.4 .250 0.30 0.60 1.0 0.6 0.9 1.7 2.6 0.4

3.0

The Suns are 10-2. Earl hasn't played very much, with inflated minutes in both the blowout losses being his only significant minutes this month. Earl collected a high of 10 points and 8 rebounds on 11/12 against the Lakers. For all the flack we gave Earl for shooting 3s every year, the fact he has not taken an ill advised NBA 3 should be considered a win for the Suns. The Suns play the Hornets tomorrow on TNT, so you can tune in and hope for a blow out.

Terrence Williams

  G MIN FGM-A FG% 3PM-A 3P% FTM-A FT% OFF DEF TOT STL BLK TO PF AST PTS
Season 11 28.7 43-130 .331 8-27 .296 12-21 .571 0.5 5.5 6.0 .36 .00 2.00 1.91 2.0 9.6

With injuries to Devin Harris and Courtney Lee, T-Will has entered the starting line up. But, numbers for T-Will are downright brutal for the 0-11 Nets. Bad enough that ESPN's player rater John Hollinger has labeled poor Terrence one of his early season disappointments. The one thing that T-Will hasn't struggled with, has been his ability to rebound. He has 3 double digit rebounding games, including back to back 12 board games against Philadelphia and Orlando. T-Will has really been struggling with his shooting, going 9-35 the past 3 games. He scored a high of 15 in the Nets season opener. Due to the Nets having an 8 man rotation in a few games, Williams has played 4 positions. There is a comprehensive write up of how he is fairing, and what his best position is, here

Here's hoping for more success for the former Card rookies

Other thoughts on game

I know that Mike, UL is my hot hot sex, DocCards or someone like that will do a good breakdown of the actual game so I thought I would give a few sidelights and have others chime in:

1.  Our unis are fresh

2.  That court was, how shall I say, obnoxious?  I think they left a little plain wood open that the could have squeezed another logo or ad into.  Hideous.

3. Bob Knight seems like a nice guy when he's not coaching or in a press conference or his opinion is questioned, but he's a bit redundant and seems to get confused on players, numbers, and names often.

4.  Neutral court games (outside of the conference and NCAA tournament) kind of suck in general.

5.  ESPN really loves itself and I personally have a love/hate relationship with it.  Like the games they put on, but could do without the graphics, counting of the hours, listing of scheduled events upcoming, etc.

6, Watched the game late at night here on west coast, but did skim through game thread afterwards and the funniest thing was the fighting by the (apparent) two Centre College Card fans.  I am assuming it was real.  Hilarious.

7. No Karen Sypher mention and wondering if there were any tasteless signs/chants.

Other useless thoughts?

We picked up another basketball commit?

Courier Journal reported this morning that UL received a commitment from PG Russell Smith of Connecticut. Smith is a three star recruit (yeah?) and at some point, somebody has compared Smith to Dejuan Wheat, which is awesome if true.

I guess this is good? I mean, we have to bring in some players for the 2010 class. I would assume the plan is for Smith to be the LONG term point guard for that time period after Siva graduates and Marquis Teague (fingers crossed) comes here and leaves early.

Tobias Harris signs his letter on Wednesday and announces the decision on Thursday. He's supposedly a Syracuse lean, but Fab Melo was supposedly a UL lean before he signed with 'Cuse, so karma would dictate that Harris has to go to Louisville. I would say that Harris is a must get, unless of course he signs to go elsewhere, in which case we didn't need him in the first place.

THIS IS IT!

After a couple of exhibition games to get us in the mood we are finally here.  We love our Cardinal football, baseball, soccer, etc., BUT this is what us in the Commonwealth look forward to.  College ball is here.  I am pumped even with all the suspensions in the Arkansas team.  To honor the official start of the UofL basketball season I thought I would treat everyone to a song to get us deep into the mood.  I chose to go with this youtube 'still' version instead of the 'action' video because this album cover just rocks.  I think it should be a photo for a game thread sometime this season.  It's like he's saying, "I have the fire and I'm giving it to you Cardinals.  Go ahead and keep the fire".  It's the unofficial song of Cardinal basketball.  Cheesy soft rock?  Yeah.  Guilty pleasure?  Nope.  Proud fan of this.     Isn't it inspiring?

GO CARDS!!!

Harbaugh gets extension

Another coaching rumor shot down today:

The Associated Press is reporting that Stanford football coach Jim Harbaugh is close to completing a contract extension with the school. thletic director Bob Bowlsby said Sunday in an e-mail that a formal announcement of a new deal was expected to come shortly. The two sides were close to announcing an extension after last season but talks were put on hold in February because of the poor economy.
