Questions I Would Ask the Coaches at S.E.C. Media Days Bar-right-arrows

Open Thread: Louisville at Pittsburgh

Road Warrior.

Obviously, no time for a full preview, but here are your main Pitt talking points:

1. Junior guard Levance Fields is looking as good as he has since he fractured a bone in his left foot eight weeks ago, and may get the start today.

2. Sam Young is good. Like, real good.

3. If Louisville wins, they'll become the first team ever to win multiple games at the Peterson Events Center. Pitt is 94-9 all-time at the PEC, and 14-1 this season.

4. Freshman center DeJuan Blair is feeling confident/motivated.

"We're going to get them on Sunday," he said after a loss to Notre Dame on Thursday night. "That's all I'm looking for right now: playing hard and getting that win on Sunday. I'm not guaranteeing nothing or saying nothing. I just want it. That's all."

5. Jamie Dixon's teams generally play much more man than zone, but they'll likely mix it up a bit more today.

CC Prediction: Pittsburgh 63, Louisville 61

This would be huge if we could pull it off, but these guys need it far more than we do, and the PEC is a huge advantage even at Noon on a Sunday.

Feel free to throw stuff at me.

Go Cards.

You predict a loss and then throw
Golden Baby in the breach

Cruel, man, just gruel cruel.

(You watch ---Baby's got teeth, and she knows how to use them  : - )

by frankpos on Feb 24, 2008 11:55 AM EST   0 recs

I thought we'd lose at Marquette
And the baby came out firing. This undefeated streak has her toddling with a bit of a strut, you gotta keep her motivated.

by Mike Rutherford on Feb 24, 2008 11:58 AM EST to parent up   0 recs

Ah, reverse logic--
probably didn't let the little bugger eat either

Baby.....
got teeth and Baby got game.  Go Cards !!!

Our press
Will eat Ramon if the keep letting him bring it up.

by Mike Rutherford on Feb 24, 2008 12:10 PM EST   0 recs

Sosa...
guess Pitino scrapped the whole "start the mentally unstable kids to make them feel better" spiel

but now he's in

by sam34gtr on Feb 24, 2008 12:16 PM EST   0 recs

We can't play man
If Juan Palacios has to check Sam Young. We just can't.

by Mike Rutherford on Feb 24, 2008 12:18 PM EST   0 recs

Such stupid turnovers
We need to learn how to hold onto the damn ball.

by ziptnf on Feb 24, 2008 12:18 PM EST   0 recs

ARGH
travel, turnover, travel, bad pass, travel

by ziptnf on Feb 24, 2008 12:19 PM EST to parent up   0 recs

To our credit
When we decide we're going to turn the ball over, we don't fuck around.

by Mike Rutherford on Feb 24, 2008 12:20 PM EST   0 recs

We make damned sure
that we no longer have possession of the ball.

by ziptnf on Feb 24, 2008 12:23 PM EST to parent up   0 recs

SOSA!!!
GOOD EDGAR IS IN THE BUILDING!!!!

by ziptnf on Feb 24, 2008 12:22 PM EST   0 recs

Sosa screams
at the student section which had been chanting "Sosa'a rattled."

Just play Edgar.

by Mike Rutherford on Feb 24, 2008 12:23 PM EST   0 recs

Sosa is going to be huge in this game.
Let's just keep him out of foul trouble

by ziptnf on Feb 24, 2008 12:27 PM EST   0 recs

Rebound?
Anyone? Get active Earl.

by Mike Rutherford on Feb 24, 2008 12:40 PM EST   0 recs

Mass
Just got back from Mass.  Anyone want to give me a 10-word or less (or more if you wish) summary of the first half?

Thanks.

by CardsFan922 on Feb 24, 2008 12:50 PM EST   0 recs

We're better, and will win.
If we play like first half 42-36, with fewer turnovers.

by frankpos on Feb 24, 2008 12:52 PM EST to parent up   0 recs

For us...
Lots of turnovers and no defensive rebounding, but a high shooting percentage. Mostly good edgar, some bad edgar.

by sam34gtr on Feb 24, 2008 12:53 PM EST to parent up   0 recs

Here goes
Good Edgar (15 points), bad rebounding (they've gotten a bunch of points off of put-backs), both teams have gone on big runs, we're shooting really well and they are not.

by Mike Rutherford on Feb 24, 2008 12:53 PM EST to parent up   0 recs

Thanks all!
Anything I need to rewind on the DVR to watch? Some amazing play or dunk or block or anything?

Ya, we're shooting 62% but only up by 6? Second chance points must be huge for them.

by CardsFan922 on Feb 24, 2008 12:57 PM EST to parent up   0 recs

Atta Sos
A couple of big boards by an active JDP as well.

Great offensive half, but we can't expect to shoot that well in the second. Have to eliminate all the second chances and cheap points around the bucket.

by Mike Rutherford on Feb 24, 2008 12:51 PM EST   0 recs

I think ive seen him once before
last march. I didnt really like the way that game endnd though...

by whitacreky on Feb 24, 2008 12:55 PM EST to parent up   0 recs

Apparently
it's actually Edgar Sosa this time, not some kid from New York who makes bad decisions.

by ziptnf on Feb 24, 2008 1:00 PM EST to parent up   0 recs

I would like to see the rebounds
particularly Pitt's O rebounds

got to stop that

we look a step slow today at times

by frankpos on Feb 24, 2008 12:54 PM EST   0 recs

Damnit, my eyes tell me we should beat this team
do we have the guts to finish this thing?

by frankpos on Feb 24, 2008 1:03 PM EST   0 recs

This color guy
Has said "what can you say about _" at least five times.

by Mike Rutherford on Feb 24, 2008 1:03 PM EST   0 recs

heh
heh..  great minds, mike...

by Noonway on Feb 24, 2008 1:04 PM EST to parent up   0 recs

What can you say about...
What can you say about... Go Cards!

by Noonway on Feb 24, 2008 1:03 PM EST   0 recs

OBoards
we gotta start grabbing some of those loose balls. Blair is killing us. And the turnovers, Lord the turnovers.
Second half = we probably won't shoot as well, but with some better rebounding and fewer TOs there's no reason we can't win.
Hopefully Sosa keeps rolling.

by ericdedwar on Feb 24, 2008 1:05 PM EST   0 recs

ugh
and we can feel free to stop Eli Manning downfield passes any time now.
e

by ericdedwar on Feb 24, 2008 1:08 PM EST   0 recs

Pitt
does a lot of feet shuffling.

by Mike Rutherford on Feb 24, 2008 1:09 PM EST   0 recs

I see what you guys were talking about...
...turnovers and Pitt offensive rebounds.

by CardsFan922 on Feb 24, 2008 1:10 PM EST   0 recs

Whatever
Blair is slow... We should be dominating him.

by Noonway on Feb 24, 2008 1:11 PM EST   0 recs

David
That's at least five turnovers on him.

I suppose it ends up happening to everyone at least once in a season.

by Mike Rutherford on Feb 24, 2008 1:11 PM EST   0 recs

Except....
Except that he also did that last game but not to this extent.

by Noonway on Feb 24, 2008 1:13 PM EST to parent up   0 recs

Earl Clark
Is going to be the death away. This bullshit laissez-faire attitude he brings every other game has got to go.

by Mike Rutherford on Feb 24, 2008 1:14 PM EST   0 recs

Or even
the death of me

by Mike Rutherford on Feb 24, 2008 1:14 PM EST to parent up   0 recs

T him up
you throw a bow, you get the foul. Suck it up.
e

by ericdedwar on Feb 24, 2008 1:20 PM EST   0 recs

Blair
That's a foul when you push him in the lower back like that right in front of the ref.

by CardsFan922 on Feb 24, 2008 1:20 PM EST   0 recs

bending...bending....
...I guess that's what shots do?

by CardsFan922 on Feb 24, 2008 1:25 PM EST   0 recs

bending
bending...  bending...   good!

by Noonway on Feb 24, 2008 1:32 PM EST to parent up   0 recs

Battle
This is a freakin' battle.

Need a couple 3's by Smith to really put the nail in the coffin.

by CardsFan922 on Feb 24, 2008 1:30 PM EST   0 recs

I'm more terrified when Palacios has the ball
than I was when I saw The Exorcist for the first time in 3rd grade.

by Mike Rutherford on Feb 24, 2008 1:33 PM EST   0 recs

Ha! It is nerve-wracking
all jangly and loose and wild

by frankpos on Feb 24, 2008 2:02 PM EST to parent up   0 recs

Is this an NCAA tourney sweet 16 game?
Why am I out of breath?  This is intense.

by Phauz on Feb 24, 2008 1:35 PM EST   0 recs

Because..
...these are the games that, if we win, we have the team we all want to believe we have.

Pitt is playing so intense, and we are matching it. Holding on for dear life.

by CardsFan922 on Feb 24, 2008 1:41 PM EST to parent up   0 recs

wow
athletic mcgee...

by Noonway on Feb 24, 2008 1:37 PM EST   0 recs

Pitt can't miss
Who are these guys?

by CardsFan922 on Feb 24, 2008 1:39 PM EST   0 recs

Our pair of fours
Are the most frustrating players on the team in very different ways.

by Mike Rutherford on Feb 24, 2008 1:51 PM EST   0 recs

ouch
what does an embolism feel like?
e

by ericdedwar on Feb 24, 2008 1:52 PM EST   0 recs

Great out-of bounds play against the press
Let's stand around and then call timeout.

by Mike Rutherford on Feb 24, 2008 1:53 PM EST   0 recs

What?
Why are we running Jerry away from the ball when we know they're fouling?

by Mike Rutherford on Feb 24, 2008 1:57 PM EST   0 recs

McGee!
Nice push off! That's what it takes to win big games on the road in the big east.

by CardsFan922 on Feb 24, 2008 1:59 PM EST   0 recs

whew
close one. I'll take it.

What is
Baby's road record, Mike?  GREAT game - #1 in Big East.....sweet

by Linda on Feb 24, 2008 2:03 PM EST   0 recs

Baby is pure gold
at home or on the road

by frankpos on Feb 24, 2008 2:04 PM EST   0 recs

My baby is gold!
My nerves were shot at the end of the game, just like everybody here. I know the Cards made a lot of mistakes today, but what a great win! A big shout out to Edgar for being solid today. I am also surprised that DP made so many mistakes for the second game in a row. I guess he is human after all. Well, at lease he made the front end of those one-and-ones at the end of the game.

Also, I think both Pitt and the Cards are better than both Tenn and Memphis State. I saw more offense, defense, and just good quality basketball during our game today than that streetball game between the Vols and the Tigers. Neither of those teams would have such pretty records in the Big East.

by louisville lisa on Feb 24, 2008 4:13 PM EST   0 recs

Love that baby!!
Lisa, she is so adorable - what's name?  Amen to your comments about comparisons between our game today and the contest between the Vols and the Tigers - I don't think either of those teams could stay on the floor with U of L or most of the Big East teams.

by Linda on Feb 24, 2008 7:24 PM EST to parent up   0 recs

Thanks!
Her name is Ellie, and she's 2 1/2 years old now. We had that picture taken when she was 11 months old. And yes, she is a big time Card fan. She didn't even cry or get upset the first time she "met" the Cardinal bird mascot during a women's game this season.

by louisville lisa on Feb 25, 2008 7:37 AM EST to parent up   0 recs

sosa
when he runs the fast break, has anyone ever seen him pass the ball
