Brendan McKay continued to build on his 2017 Golden Spikes Award campaign Thursday night, allowing just one hit as No. 2 Louisville opened a weekend road series against Georgia Tech with a 3-0 win.
Improving to 5-2 on the year, McKay worked a dominant eight innings, striking out eight and walking only two. Lincoln Henzman worked the ninth inning to notch his 10th save of the season.
McKay also helped himself at the plate where he went 2-for-4, finishing with more hits by himself than he allowed to the entire Yellow Jacket team. Junior shortstop Devin Hairston continued his torrid April, going 3-for-4 with a run scored. As a team, U of L out-hit GT, 10-1.
Thursday’s victory moved Louisville to 29-4 overall on the season, and 13-3 in ACC play.
The Cardinals and Yellow Jackets will take the field in Atlanta again Friday night at 6, and then wrap up the series on Saturday at 1 p.m. Louisville will then turn its attention to winning its seventh straight over arch-rival Kentucky Tuesday night in Lexington.
