I was very sad to hear while I was on vacation that the legendary Spike the tortoise had been struck by a car, but it's been great to see how Louisville has rallied around both him and his owner.
For the second time this summer, Western Kentucky AD Todd Stewart is talking about wanting to play Louisville in both football and men's basketball.
The WKU athletic director was in the Louisville suburbs Monday night, speaking at a Hilltopper alumni event at Hunting Creek Country Club.
Stewart, football coach Jeff Brohm and men's basketball coach Rick Stansbury all met with a group of media beforehand. All three were either asked about or brought up the subject of scheduling the area's hometown team, the Louisville Cardinals.
"Hopefully that's something that we can get done because I think it would be good for fans of both schools," said Stewart, who recently completed his fourth full season as WKU's AD. "I know our fans would rather see us play Louisville than probably a lot of ACC or SEC schools and I think Louisville fans would probably rather see them play us than most other Conference USA, Sun Belt or MAC schools.
"So to me it would be a win-win, it would be great for the fans in this state and hopefully we can get it done."

The lesson here, apparently, is that if you detail your car in preparation for a perfect season or a national championship season and neither one of those things come to fruition, you just have to pretend like they did.
Or maybe these people are just batshit crazy. Probably the second thing.

Rick Bozich says that Louisville playing WKU in football could do for the 'Toppers what Kentucky playing U of L in football did for the Cardinals, which I don't really agree with, but whatever. It's summer.

Clock Strikes Zero highlights Louisville as its ACC sleeper team.
2016 Outlook
In 2016 the Cardinals have a shot to shake up the rankings early. They face Florida State in week 3 at home. Florida State is ultra talented, however that early in the season most teams are still trying to mesh. I think this game will be much closer than expected, just look at the way Houston was able to attack the Seminoles defense in their bowl game. I believe that Bobby Petrino's offensive genius may be able to duplicate that success come Sept. 17th. My only concern is how Louisville's front seven holds up against the run without Sheldon Rankins.
Best Case Scenario: 10-2 and a potential ACC Championship birth
Worst Case Scenario: 8-4 and a bowl birth
And finally, I'm flying solo again on what will be a coach-heavy installment of Ramsey & Rutherford this afternoon. We'll have Jeff Walz on to talk about the passing of Pat Summit and give an update on his team, and U of L swim and dive coach Arthur Albiero will also be on to talk about Kelsi Worrell qualifying for the Olympics.
