Thoughts: After taking a redshirt his freshman year due to depth at the position, George is now preparing himself to potentially take over some of the kicking responsibilities in the future. I’d think that Appleby has the backup spot locked up at punter and possibly kicker as well, but with Ryan Johnson being a Senior and Wallace a Junior, we have to get these young bloods some experience. Keep putting in the practice time Anthony because you never know when we’ll need you. With three years of eligibility left, who knows, George could be our starting kicker two years from now, and the work he does today will help him prepare.
Sweet Tweet: No twitter, but just because he doesn’t have an account I don’t want him to feel ignored. These guys can be a little quirky at times (See: Vanderjagt, Mike or Janikowski, Sebastian) Kicker is often an overlooked position until they screw something up, so sometimes they need a pep talk to get the blood going…
Listen up George. We’re exactly 35 days away from the start of our season. In 5 weeks from today you will be breathing in the fresh air that should consider itself fortunate to surround Papa Johns Cardinal Stadium on gameday. You may not think you’ll see the field, but we’re only one pulled hamstring, one roughing penalty, one nasty play away from you running out in front of 55,000 screaming fans to kick a game winning field goal against the Miami f’n Hurricanes. I need you in the gym like it’s your job. I need you on the practice field like it’s your job, I need you to mentally prepare yourself like it’s your job. You’re on this team for a reason son, and the time will come when it feels like the weight of the world will be on your shoulders. You can convince me you’re ready, you can convince your teammates you’re ready, you can even convince the coaches you’re ready, but it’s all worth nothing if you don’t convince yourself. 5 weeks George. 5 weeks. Don’t waste a day, a hour, a minute. Be ready. The time is now.
