After an exciting first week of action, the regional semifinalists have been determined.

Here is the updated bracket.

It certainly was not a first week that was void of upsets and close finishes. Three match-ups even needed a tiebreaker (amount of games, reception and sales of said games.) to determine a victor (marked by an asterisk in the bracket.) There were also some results that stirred a bit of disagreement amongst the readers and voters, namely Tetris's triumph over The Elder Scrolls.

The Cinderella of this challenge so far would definitely have to be Castlevania. A vastly popular franchise from the 8-bit era, Simon Belmont led Castlevania to wins over #5 seed Uncharted, and the aforementioned #13 seed Tetris. Unfortunately, it looks like that run will come to an end. Castlevania will have their work cut out for them against #1 seed and Nintendo powerhouse Legend of Zelda.

I still very much see this challenge as Mario's to lose. Our favorite Italian Plumber has yet to really be tested, but that could easily change when he goes up against one of the most beloved non-MMORPG PC franchises of all time, in Half-Life.

This week was great, and next week should be even better. Have a great weekend, fellow gamers and Chronicloids! The Challenge will resume on Monday.
