#90 Johnny Richardson
Class: RS Freshman
Position: Defensive End
Hometown: Jacksonville, Fla
Thoughts: For those of you who may be thinking "who is Johnny Richardson", well maybe the name De’Asian Richardson sounds more familiar. Johnny changed his name over the course of the last year and I have no idea why. One can only assume it was to protect the innocent lives of the future children these poor opposing offensive lineman are about to have….but that’s just speculation at this point.
De’Asian was actually a big get for coach Strong back in 2013 and was the first player to switch his commitment to the Cards (From WVU) after the Sugar Bowl victory.
De’Asian Johnny was a highly touted defensive end who has the size necessary to compete along the line immediately. When he arrived in the program Coach Strong said the goal was to shift some of his weight into the right areas. I’m not saying the guy had "cankles" but he could probably cut back the late night Wendy’s runs with Fat Wayne. Johnny took a RS last year and now appears as if he will battle some of the starters up front for playing time. All indications pointed to keeping him outside leading up to Spring ball, but I think Grantham saw his weight, height, and wingspan and gave him a shot a Nose Tackle backing up DeAngelo Brown. In my opinion I think Vince Wilfork is one of the best Nose Tackles in the NFL, so out of curiosity I compared Richardson’s height and weight to that of Wilfork. Wouldn’t you know it, they are exactly the same. With DeAngelo Brown being a Junior, we just may have our NT in waiting with Johnny.
Sweet Tweet: Do you think since Johnny changed his name people have begun to call him JR? Without question a first name that starts with "J" gets abbreviated significantly more than any other letter. I know from experience. Why is that? Are "J" names not interesting enough that they demand modification? Are they so long that they require an abbreviation? Think about it…..JB, JC, JD, JJ, JP, JR, JT, JW, all of these sound perfectly acceptable. If Johnny changed his name to Greg, Bob or Eric Richardson no one would call him "GR", "BR" or "ER", it just doesn’t sound right. Actually, I don’t think I would be very comfortable around someone or could ever trust a man who was called "ER". I’ll have to add that to my list of "things I don’t trust".
[writes "man named ER" right below "man who wears short sleeve button up shirt with a tie"]
